How to Choose the Perfect Dinner Food & Wine Pairings

Did you know that the right glass of wine can actually make your meal taste even better? The world of food and wine pairings is filled with possibilities, and it can transform your dining experience. We put together a few things you should know about dinner wine pairings before you go out to enjoy your next meal!

When Should I Choose White Wine?

White wine is typically light, refreshing, and well-balanced in nature, and it creates plenty of opportunities to bring out new flavors in your meal. Experts note that white wine is best with salads, appetizers, chicken dishes, and fish. While that’s not an all-inclusive list, it’s a great place to start on your food and wine journey. White wine can complement the savory parts of lighter meals, offering a beautiful balance.  Not sure what to try with dessert? If your dessert includes vanilla or fruit, consider trying a Chardonnay.

When Should I Choose Red Wine?

Red wine is known for bringing deep, rich flavors to pair with a meal. Most people know that red wine pairs best with red meat, but there are even more options if you enjoy red wine. Pasta, pork, and dark chocolate also make red wine the perfect sidekick. If you aren’t sure where to start, a red blend is typically a good option. Some red wines can be quite heavy, so be sure to check with your server if you aren’t sure which red will complement your meal best!

When Should I Choose Beer?

If you aren’t interested in wine, there are plenty of ways to incorporate beer into your flavor pairings. Even a lighter beer can add a crisp, refreshing element to your meal. You can add a lager to your burger, flatbread, or chicken dish. These types of entrees pair well because they bring out the flavors without overpowering your meal.  If you prefer IPA’s, consider ordering a spicy dish. The bitterness of an IPA can complement and cool down your meal, making it one of the best dinner wine pairings!
